WATCH: ISIS Executes ‘Graffiti Spray Painters’ & Beheads 3 ‘Spies’
In a new video purportedly released by the Islamic State from “Wilayat Ninawa,” Iraq, three alleged members of the “Mosul Brigade” are executed for anti-ISIS graffiti. Three men are later beheaded on spying charges. The video comes from the ISIS-occupied Iraq Ninawa Governorate, anglicized as “Nineveh Governorate.” According to the Terrorism Research & Analysis Consortium, Wilayat Ninawa is one of the most important of the so-called Islamic State’s Iraqi provinces and contains the cities of “Mosul, Tal Kif, Hamam al-‘Alil, Qara Tabba, Ba’ashiqah and Bahzani, Al-Khidhr, Khorasabat, Bazawiyyah, Tarjalah, [and] Mount Aski.”
Reports of the Mosul Brigade, called “Kataeb al-Mosul” in Arabic, first came in July 2014, when the International Business Times published an article about the local armed resistance. According to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty, their methods for attacking ISIS goes far beyond graffiti. The Mosul Brigade uses snipers, IEDs, and other weapons to attack ISIS militants.
In the video, the three alleged members of the Mosul Brigade, charged for spray painting anti-ISIS graffiti, are publicly executed to cheers of a crowd.
The executions are then replayed in brutal slow motion.
After the three men are executed, the video then cuts to footage of three more men on their knees in front of ISIS militants brandishing knives. The men are dressed in the infamous, orange, “Guantanamo Bay” boilersuits of ISIS prisoners. They are charged with spying against the Islamic State and are beheaded on a road as pedestrians walk around in the background.
