Disturbing acts in Wellsville, at Canisius College follow Election Day
The first day following the election of President Donald Trump has seen two troubling incidents, one in Wellsville and another at Canisius College.
A softball dugout in Island Park in Wellsville was defaced with the words "Make America White Again," accompanied by a large swastika. The graffiti was discovered this morning and the police were called. The park is located near Wellsville High School and the town's central business district.
According to the Wellsville Daily Reporter story, the incident took place on private property and the Wellsville police chief saw no cause for action. Wellsville is a village in Allegany County with a population of roughly 4,500. According to New York State Board of Elections, 61.06 percent of the country voted for Donald Trump, with 10,689 votes cast in the Republican candidate's favor.
By Wednesday afternoon, some people that called themselves "concerned citizens" painted over the graffiti. "There's enough bad going on in the world. Wellsville people are always good at getting things done," volunteer Skip Carter told the Wellsville Daily Reporter.
