Woman allegedly abducted for 2 hours by Uber driver By Amy Graff on October 14, 2014

Woman allegedly abducted for 2 hours by Uber driver

Uber runs criminal background checks on all drivers and customer reviews add an additional layer of security. But occasionally bad things happen. A passenger accused a driver of attacking him with a hammer last month in San Francisco and in June a driver was charged for allegedly striking an S.F. passenger.
When drivers misbehave Uber has a reputation for not taking responsibility as their philosophy is that drivers are independent contractors, not employees. This may change in the near future as many cases are in the courts that might force Uber to step up and own these incidents.
In the mean time, the poor lady who was taken for the nightmare ride is staying in a hotel as she fears the crazy driver might come to her home. Uber did refund her fare, but she’s yet to receive a phone call, and, according to Gawker, she’s working with an attorney and the Los Angeles Police Department.
