Drivers are not making more I work almost 20 hours on a Friday to early Saturday morning just to clear about $300. This is crazy. But Uber will continue to make money and stay in business because all drivers will not come together. Its just like the Taxi business if all drivers stuck together and protested the companies would have to change but that will never happen...... Take all LA Uber drivers off the road and strike for one weekend and see how Uber would respond than

I think, Uber should know how to listen their drivers side.

Uber is flat out lying! Because they do it with a smile on their face, they're pretending no one will notice. Prob is, when you do this every day for 8 months and experience every pay cut and see it's effects, it's simply untrue. You can only drive so much (1 client at a time) and when that rate gets cut from $2.50 a mile to $1.10 a mile, you LOSE money. On top of that, 20% commission is taken by Uber. I quit driving when actual take home fell below min wage after expenses, which was BEFORE this last pay cut!
If you use Uber as a passenger, PLEASE TIP YOUR DRIVER!

It gets better, I had a accident with a passenger in my car and was told I'm not covered and have to use my personal insurance, now all the cost are my responsibility, they know my insurance company won't cover it because I had a passenger . Now if my rider got hurt I now find out I would have been responsible and my car damage it's my problem. It was a no Fault accident too The lady I hit ran a red light.....doesn't matter I have to use my personal insurance, Uber can do what ever they want thats scary. This is a 18 billion dollar company and the can't cover my accident...really !

OH boo hoo a bunch of drivers for a bandit taxi company under no regulation are whining because they won't be making as much money as they were before. Go white to your Counsel Member and Mayor, oops, Uber is not regulated by the City so I guess they aren't going to give a sheet.

I think they took a page out of the Fedex Ground/ Fedex Home delivery book on how to turn your delivery trucks into, Rolling Sweat Shops.

Hers a story/ You want to drive for Uber. They are super cool. They convince you to MAX out your credit cards and finance a bunch of cars and tell you to hire friends etc. "its the American way! Your are a small business owner etc." They are really good at exploiting immigrants who are usually unaware of their rights here in the USA. Later uber rolls out a new cheaper service called UBERX. Suddenly all your drivers quit and get their own cars for Uberx? Why? Uber backstabbed you and went directly to your drivers convincing them to bail on you! Now its hard to hire drivers because the same thing happened to all the other "partners". Suddenly all the "partners" are in fierce competition for drivers. More conquer and divide. Then uber slashes your wages. Then again. Then again. You cant keep up with your bills etc. That's what happened and is currently happening to ALOT of "partners" in SF. Some went bankrupt. So yes it might have been foolish to over invest in uber BUT that's how Uber rolls. They are your best friend when they need you to launch in a new market then stab you in the back later. They pit driver against partner but finally people are waking up. Its honestly a great service for customer but for drivers not so much...

We want to be teamsters too up here in SF. please tell us how? Drivers need to stick together. Bravo LA Bravo!

If drivers are making more money now due to more demand while making much less per mile then they must be driving many more miles.
That means they're spending more time behind the wheel while putting more wear-and-tear on their vehicles and burning more gas.
Uber's costs essentially remain the same.

So on average how many miles an average day does an Uber or any other of similar ride services drive?
Because at 2.50 a mile and in an hour you drive say 20 miles on average, maybe from DTLA to LAX and back and so on, then, you WERE making a pretty darn good bag of grip!
                                                  • Avatar
Usually if I drive 100 miles, I will make $100. Out of that $100, Uber will take $20 and me $80. Out of that $80 I spend $14 on gas, X amount on depreciation/wear and tear. I have to pay taxes on that $80 after deductions, so basically I'm working for minimum wage.
                                                    • Avatar
It's called DEFLATION, and it's going to be pervasive and wide-reaching in scope. Once general prices begin to plummet, as is the natural course of things in a technologically evolved society, lower wages and pay will be OK. First thing we need to do is engineer another stock market crash just as we did in 2008-2009. When the Dow Jones is back down at 5,000, the masses will be much happier with their lives......

I don't care who they claim to be working for.....are you crazy?

Rich people do it all the time. They are called Limousines.

After driving for Lyft and Uberx I became addicted as a driver, it was really fun.. I've also taken almost $8k in uber/lyft/sidecar rides since, and given over 3000 uber rides.. its awkward at first.. but addicting..
                                                                    • Avatar

                                                                      • Avatar

These greedy a-holes have no sense of fairness. It's just, take as much as you can and as fast as you can, from whomever you can, with them.
                                                                        • Avatar

They are STEALING the auto equity and gas money of their "partners" under the guise of employment
Whatever the driver "earns" is lost in gasoline and auto depreciation.
Expect service levels to COLLAPSE in the very near future.
Free water and gum? Open the door? Clean car? Help with you luggage?
                                                                          Not at these rates.
Passengers are now LUCKY if anyone shows up at all.
                                                                          Especially for the short trips.
Think you can pay drivers to drive their own cars 50% less than taxi cab fares and maintain any level of service whatsoever?
Think drivers will safely and happily pickup your brats from school for 3 dollars?
Or take you to dca or union station for 8 dollars?
                                                                          Think again.
Stay out of MY car, you cheap, self entitled bum.
                                                                          Take a bus.

The riders are now HATED and RESENTED by the drivers as a result of uber's sadistic attitude towards its "partners".
These criminals are such dispicable cowards that they have no physical address

Therefore, a sociopath would never offer the advice that I just did. It may sound simplistic but finding something else to do with your time and labor is your best and most viable option. Do you have the ability to change Uber policies? If the answer is no, you are only harming yourself and wasting your own time by trying. Put yourself first and do what is best for YOU.

In many cases, they are looking to buy/lease late model cars. Taxi drivers in your city might be a good source of leads if you are looking to sell or sub-let the vehicles you purchased.
                                                                                            • Avatar

The lack of a union or uber understanding the word "partner" is the issue here. This service is/was great, Uber ruined it because of their lack of respect of the tipping system, and they are dropping their pants every two weeks with their rates. They have no clue on the rates and accounting and they take it out on the drivers.. they gave 5% commission, then realized they were loosing money.. and they drop the rates AGAIN? get a clue? add more features, upgrade the app.. don't race to the bottom..

If not, I can understand your frustration with their current pricing strategy and agree that they might be screwing up what had been a really good system... but whatever they do, you have no power to change it. I speak from experience. When situations change for the worst either change it back (if you can) or move on. Holding on = frustration, anger, grief.
                                                                                                    • Avatar

However, I never got feedback from riders that price was an issue... so long as we were cheaper than taxis. So yes, the lower rates might not be necessary. However... if it upsets you so much just quit.

Its when you undercut your competition and lose money in order to run them out of business. It used to be illegal because the big bully with 18billion could bully others and take losses until the competition dies but then again we now have lobbyist who helped change that. Remember all those Mom&Pop grocery stores that went belly up? It all started in the 80's. So that's what's going on. A ruthless price war for the next monopoly. Btw I am not here to defend cabbies, they had their own monopoly of sorts and some cities functioned better than others but they never saw ubers massive WAR CHEST coming, suddenly corrupt politicians had NEW FRIENDS. SF was/is a horrible taxis town that work poorly and only servicing downtown. But Whoa baby! Then came UBER which later got g$$gle money which is endless. And its not just cabbies its also LYFT their other main rival their trying to run out. Recently the whole thing as descended into a very childish fight btw the two honestly.
                                                                                                    • Avatar

The phones are provided to the driver from Uber after the driver pays a deposit. Doesn't matter if you only drive 15 or 50 hours a week the data rate is the same for each driver.

How can a driver make more, mile per mile, when they lowered the prices from $2.5 to $1.1. The higher demand together with a higher number of drivers resulted in higher income for uber pockets, but not for the drivers, their prices are starving prices. When the average cost of driving one mile, according to IRS, is $0.56 and uber's commission is 20%, a driver earns less than $0.32 per mile, and when servicing a minimum $4.00 fare trip, actually operates at a deficit, how is this profitable for the drivers? I thought uber was a good alternative to make a living and purchased a new car, just for the purpose of driving for uber, very regrettable decision and looking for another occupations. The way it is now, with their uber-cheap prices, McDonalds is a better alternative. Travis Kalanick promise a Political War, so far, they have prove to be 'good politicians'. "

I think with all that she typed it's clear that she can see that this may not work out. Do you just want her to shut up about it or are you just trying to rub it in her face?

She is someone I would stand behind in a minute and trust. Not to mention she is right and we in LA all have data from sherpashare and our own that we are loosing money.. CA thanks to Arnold is also getting a carbon gas hike up to $1.05 per gallon in Jan.. Uber will probably do a promotion to LOWER their rates when this goes into effect and claim it will give more rides..
