2014 was certainly a very successful year for us. We made some big strides in Saving the Conejo Creek farmland.  We have been told that there is no plan to file a new GPA (General Plan Amendment) application to rezone the Conejo Creek property...and that the City Council sent a very strong message to the developer when the Conejo Creek GPA referral was rescinded. Even so, we know that the EIR is ongoing and plans for development could rear up again as it has at least three times in the past.

Our goal for 2015-16 is to find a permanent solution for protecting our Gateway into Camarillo. We are continuing to develop an Initiative that would ensure that any change in zoning of this Agricultural land could not be approved without a vote of the people of Camarillo.  We are looking into the best way to optimize our chances of getting it on the ballot and passed in the 2016 elections.

This is a complex issue. It will not be easily accomplished.  The timing of this effort is CRITICAL so don't be dismayed if you don't see "immediate" news on the issue. You can go to our website www.conejocreek.org for more information and updates as they become available.  Patience is a virtue here, but then when it is time to proceed we will have to move quickly.  If we are to succeed, we will once again need your help in:
  • Gathering the required signatures (to begin this Fall) to place the Initiative on the ballot
  • If we are successful to that point,  informing the Camarillo citizens of the importance of this Initiative
  • Getting out the vote to ensure its passage
Unfortunately we were too late to stop the Springville development. Driving along the 101 Freeway you can watch the progression of agricultural land being plowed under and replaced by apartments, plot by plot, acre by acre.  This is a taste of what the Conejo Creek properties would have looked like if the people of Camarillo had not become involved and packed City Hall time after time.  It can also serve as a reminder of what could happen in the future if we are not successful in our campaign to get the Initiative passed.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE TO GET US TO THIS POINT AND FOR ALL YOU WILL BE WILLING TO DO LATER!
